People's March: Thousands Rally in Washington Against Trump Ahead of Inauguration

Thousands of demonstrators, predominantly women, took to the streets of Washington, D.C., on Saturday to protest President-elect Donald Trump just days before his inauguration. The event, known as the People's March, has been held annually since 2017 and was previously called the Women's March. The march, organized by a coalition of groups with varied interests such as climate change, immigration, and women's rights, aimed to confront "Trumpism" and draw on past successes against autocrats. Earth Experiences Hottest Day Ever Recorded

On Monday, the Earth experienced its hottest day ever recorded, surpassing the previous record set just a day earlier. According to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, the global average temperature reached 17.15 degrees Celsius (62.87 degrees Fahrenheit) on Monday.

This unprecedented heatwave is attributed to a combination of human-induced climate change and the natural El Niño phenomenon, which brings warmer sea surface temperatures to the tropical eastern Pacific. Higher-than-normal winter temperatures in Antarctica also contributed to this record-breaking heat.

The extreme temperatures have had widespread impacts, with people across the globe feeling the effects. From California’s triple-digit temperatures to the sweltering heat in Southern Europe, the world is grappling with the consequences of this intense heatwave.

Climate scientists warn that without significant changes to reduce fossil fuel emissions, such extreme temperature records will continue to be broken, posing severe risks to lives and livelihoods. The urgency for global action on climate change has never been more apparent.
