Oil Prices Are Spiking — Here's What It Means for Your Gas Tank and Grocery Bill

The culprit: an escalating conflict in the Middle East that's disrupting one of the world's most important oil shipping routes — and it's starting to show up at Canadian pumps and, eventually, on grocery store shelves. What's happening with oil prices West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the North American benchmark, has been trading around the $79–$80 per barrel range this week — up roughly 5% over the past month. Brent crude, the global benchmark that matters more for what Canadians pay at the pump, has been hovering near $85 per barrel, also near a one-month high. The spike traces back to renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran. The U.S. reimposed a naval blockade on Iran and has intensified strikes, while Iran has responded with attacks on U.S. bases and threats to disrupt regional energy shipments further. ...

Historic Super Bowl LIX: President Trump and Taylor Swift Attend

 

Super Bowl LIX, held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025, was a star-studded event featuring notable attendees such as President Donald Trump and pop icon Taylor Swift. This marks the first time a sitting U.S. president has attended the Super Bowl. 

President Trump, accompanied by his family and several Republican senators, attended the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. In a pre-game interview, he predicted a victory for the Chiefs, praising quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, who has shown support for Trump on social media. 

Taylor Swift attended the game to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She was seen wearing an oversized white blazer, denim shorts, and white over-the-knee boots, accessorized with a ruby-encrusted "T" pendant necklace co-designed with Lorraine Schwartz. Swift was accompanied by friends Ashley Avignone and rapper Ice Spice. 

Other celebrities in attendance included Jay-Z with his daughters, Meghan Thee Stallion, Kevin Costner, Adam Sandler, and Lionel Messi. 

The game itself was a thrilling contest, with the Chiefs aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl title. The Eagles, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, showcased a strong defense and effective offensive plays. The halftime show featured a performance by Kendrick Lamar, adding to the event's entertainment value.
