       Monday July 13, 2026 FIFA promised Canada a $3.8-billion economic windfall for hosting the 2026 World Cup. Two weeks into play in Toronto, the receipts tell a very different story — and there's a lesson in it for anyone thinking a "big event" boost is coming to their city, their rental property, or their business. The Billion-Dollar Bill Came First Before a single ball was kicked, Canadian taxpayers were already on the hook. According to the Parliamentary Budget Office, governments across the country will spend roughly $1.07 billion hosting the 2026 tournament. Toronto alone budgeted $380 million to host six matches at BMO Field. British Columbia's tab for Vancouver's seven matches at BC Place came in even higher, at about $578 million. Ottawa is chipping in $473 million of that total — including $220 million in direct grants to Toronto and B.C., plus another $145 million earmarked for security costs during the tournament. Historic Super Bowl LIX: President Trump and Taylor Swift Attend

 

Super Bowl LIX, held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025, was a star-studded event featuring notable attendees such as President Donald Trump and pop icon Taylor Swift. This marks the first time a sitting U.S. president has attended the Super Bowl. 

President Trump, accompanied by his family and several Republican senators, attended the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. In a pre-game interview, he predicted a victory for the Chiefs, praising quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, who has shown support for Trump on social media. 

Taylor Swift attended the game to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She was seen wearing an oversized white blazer, denim shorts, and white over-the-knee boots, accessorized with a ruby-encrusted "T" pendant necklace co-designed with Lorraine Schwartz. Swift was accompanied by friends Ashley Avignone and rapper Ice Spice. 

Other celebrities in attendance included Jay-Z with his daughters, Meghan Thee Stallion, Kevin Costner, Adam Sandler, and Lionel Messi. 

The game itself was a thrilling contest, with the Chiefs aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl title. The Eagles, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, showcased a strong defense and effective offensive plays. The halftime show featured a performance by Kendrick Lamar, adding to the event's entertainment value.
