Wall St Futures Slip as Geopolitical Uncertainty and Mixed Earnings Weigh on Sentiment

Wall Street futures slipped early Thursday as investors grew cautious in the absence of clear signals on the U.S.–Iran war, while a wave of mixed earnings added to the uncertainty. Iran’s seizure of two ships in the Strait of Hormuz and its demand that the U.S. lift its naval blockade have heightened geopolitical tensions, even after President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely. The standoff continues to keep oil prices above $100 per barrel , raising concerns about a potential inflation flare‑up.  Economists warn that even if the conflict eases, the global economy may take time to normalize after one of the largest oil supply disruptions in decades.  As of early morning trading, Dow E‑minis were down 0.73%, S&P 500 E‑minis slipped 0.50%, and Nasdaq 100 E‑minis fell 0.48% , reflecting a broader pullback in risk appetite.  Earnings added another layer of volatility. Pope Francis: A Legacy of Compassion and Reform Ends at 88

Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff and a transformative figure in the Catholic Church, has passed away at the age of 88. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, he rose from humble beginnings to become a global symbol of compassion, humility, and reform.  

Throughout his tenure, Pope Francis championed the rights of the marginalized, advocating for immigrants, the poor, and LGBTQ+ individuals. His leadership was marked by a commitment to inclusivity, environmental stewardship, and a push for modernization within the Church.  

His passing was announced by the Vatican early Monday morning, with Cardinal Kevin Farrell stating, “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father”. His death follows a series of health challenges, including a prolonged battle with respiratory issues.  

As the world mourns his loss, tributes pour in from leaders across the globe, recognizing his unwavering dedication to justice and faith. The College of Cardinals will soon convene to elect his successor, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Catholic Church.
