Greece’s Asylum Freeze Sparks Global Outcry Amid Crete Migrant Surge

In a move that has ignited fierce backlash from human rights organizations and the United Nations, Greece has passed legislation temporarily halting asylum applications from migrants arriving by sea from North Africa. The three-month suspension, approved by parliament with 177 votes in favor and 74 against, allows for expedited repatriation without prior identification. *Breaking Barriers: Blaise Metreweli Becomes MI6’s First Female Chief

Britain has made history by appointing Blaise Metreweli as the first female head of MI6, the country’s foreign intelligence agency. Metreweli, a career intelligence officer, has spent 25 years in espionage and currently serves as MI6’s Director of Technology and Innovation.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced her appointment while attending the G7 summit in Canada, calling it a “historic” moment. Metreweli will take over later this year, replacing Richard Moore, who has held the position for five years.

Her leadership comes at a time when MI6 faces growing global threats, including cyberattacks and espionage from Russia and China. Metreweli, who studied anthropology at Cambridge University, is known for her expertise in leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance Britain’s intelligence capabilities.

With MI6 joining MI5 and GCHQ in appointing female leaders, Metreweli’s rise marks a significant step toward diversity in Britain’s intelligence community. She expressed her pride in taking on the role, stating, “I am proud and honored to be asked to lead my Service”.

Her appointment signals a *new era for MI6, as Britain strengthens its intelligence operations to tackle modern security challenges.
