Greece’s Asylum Freeze Sparks Global Outcry Amid Crete Migrant Surge

In a move that has ignited fierce backlash from human rights organizations and the United Nations, Greece has passed legislation temporarily halting asylum applications from migrants arriving by sea from North Africa. The three-month suspension, approved by parliament with 177 votes in favor and 74 against, allows for expedited repatriation without prior identification. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis defended the measure as a “difficult but necessary decision” in response to a sharp rise in irregular arrivals, particularly from Libya to the island of Crete. Clues and Questions: The Ongoing Search for Missing Nova Scotia Siblings

Nearly seven weeks after the disappearance of six-year-old Lilly and four-year-old Jack Sullivan from their rural home in Lansdowne Station, Nova Scotia, new details have emerged in the investigation that continues to grip the nation.

Daniel Martell, the children’s stepfather, revealed he voluntarily underwent a polygraph test early in the investigation, acknowledging that suspicion often falls on close family members. Martell said the questions were framed under the assumption that the children were no longer alive, including, “Are you an accessory to the murder of Lilly and Jack?” He was told afterward that he had passed the test.

The RCMP has formally interviewed 54 individuals and administered polygraphs to several of them. Investigators have also seized materials and devices under judicial authorization and combed through hundreds of hours of surveillance footage.

A piece of Lilly’s blanket and a child-sized bootprint were found near the family’s home, offering potential clues. Despite extensive ground searches and the involvement of multiple RCMP units and national agencies, no new search areas have been identified.

The case remains open and active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. The mystery surrounding Lilly and Jack’s disappearance continues to raise both hope and heartbreak across the country.
