Greece’s Asylum Freeze Sparks Global Outcry Amid Crete Migrant Surge

In a move that has ignited fierce backlash from human rights organizations and the United Nations, Greece has passed legislation temporarily halting asylum applications from migrants arriving by sea from North Africa. The three-month suspension, approved by parliament with 177 votes in favor and 74 against, allows for expedited repatriation without prior identification. Operation Rising Lion: Israel Strikes Iran’s Nuclear and Military Sites

In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Iran, targeting nuclear facilities and military leaders in what it has called Operation Rising Lion. The strikes, which took place early Friday, resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian military officials, including Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, and Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation aimed to roll back the Iranian threat and prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear capabilities. The attack reportedly involved 200 fighter jets and included strikes on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, a key site in its nuclear program.

Iran has vowed severe retaliation, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning that Israel will face "severe punishment" for its actions. In response, Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israel, escalating fears of a broader conflict.

The international community has reacted with concern, with Russia condemning the escalation and the United States distancing itself from the operation. Meanwhile, global oil prices have surged, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the situation,

As tensions continue to rise, the world watches closely to see how Iran will respond and whether diplomatic efforts can prevent further escalation.
