Air Transat Faces Flight Suspensions Amid Pilot Strike Notice

Air Transat has announced it will gradually suspend flights starting Monday following a 72-hour strike notice issued by its pilots’ union. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), representing roughly 700 pilots, delivered the notice after nearly a year of unsuccessful negotiations with the airline’s parent company, Transat A.T. Inc. Background The union filed the strike notice on Sunday, giving pilots the legal right to walk off the job as early as Wednesday. Deadly Drone Strike in Ukraine Follows Failed Peace Talks

A Russian drone strike hit a passenger bus in northeastern Ukraine on Saturday, killing nine civilians and injuring four others. The attack occurred in the city of Bilopillia, located in the Sumy region, just hours after Russian and Ukrainian officials held their first direct peace talks in years.

Ukrainian authorities condemned the strike as a deliberate attack on civilians, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling it "a deliberate killing of civilians". The Sumy regional administration labeled the incident a war crime, emphasizing that the bus posed no threat.

The drone strike came after peace negotiations in Turkey failed to yield a ceasefire agreement. While both sides agreed to a large prisoner swap, they remained divided on key conditions for ending the conflict. Ukrainian officials continue to push for stronger sanctions against Moscow, arguing that diplomatic pressure is necessary to halt further violence.

The tragedy has intensified calls for international intervention, as Ukraine and its allies seek a resolution to the ongoing war that began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
