Air Transat Faces Flight Suspensions Amid Pilot Strike Notice

Air Transat has announced it will gradually suspend flights starting Monday following a 72-hour strike notice issued by its pilots’ union. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), representing roughly 700 pilots, delivered the notice after nearly a year of unsuccessful negotiations with the airline’s parent company, Transat A.T. Inc. Background The union filed the strike notice on Sunday, giving pilots the legal right to walk off the job as early as Wednesday. Last week, pilots voted 99% in favor of strike action , underscoring their frustration over stalled contract talks. ALPA leaders emphasized that pilots do not want to strike but feel compelled to act after management failed to meet demands for a modernized agreement. Aid Turns Deadly: Over 20 Palestinians Killed by Israeli Forces While Seeking Food in Gaza

In a harrowing episode underscoring Gaza’s deepening humanitarian crisis, Israeli forces killed at least 23 Palestinians on Sunday as they attempted to access food aid, according to hospital officials and eyewitnesses. The victims were part of desperate crowds moving toward distribution points operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a U.S. and Israeli-backed contractor that took over aid operations in May.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes near multiple aid sites, including Teina, Morag, and the Netzarim corridor, where Israeli troops reportedly opened fire on civilians approaching the distribution zones. “Troops were trying to prevent people from advancing. They opened fire and we fled. Some people were shot,” said Hamza Matter, one of the aid seekers.

Hospitals across Gaza received bodies from several locations, with Nasser Hospital confirming eight deaths from Teina and others from Shakoush and Morag. Awda Hospital reported five more fatalities and 27 injuries near Netzarim.

The United Nations has documented over 850 deaths near GHF sites between May 27 and July 31, with hundreds more killed along UN-led food convoy routes. The Gaza Health Ministry also reported six additional deaths from malnutrition in the past 24 hours, bringing the adult toll to 82 over five weeks.

While Israeli officials and GHF claim their forces only use warning shots or non-lethal methods like pepper spray, eyewitness accounts and hospital data paint a grim picture of escalating violence against civilians seeking basic sustenance.
