Army Sergeant Opens Fire at Fort Stewart, Injuring Five Soldiers

 


 A tragic shooting unfolded Wednesday morning at Fort Stewart, one of the largest U.S. Army bases, when Army Sergeant Quornelius Radford allegedly opened fire on fellow soldiers, injuring five. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, prompting a swift lockdown of the base.

Radford, 28, an automated logistics noncommissioned officer, reportedly used a personal handgun during the attack. Witnesses at the scene tackled and subdued him before law enforcement arrived. He was arrested at 11:35 a.m. and remains in custody pending investigation.

All five victims were transported to Winn Army Community Hospital and Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Officials confirmed that the soldiers are in stable condition and expected to recover.

Brig. Gen. John Lubas praised the quick actions of nearby soldiers, stating their intervention “without a doubt, prevented further casualties.” The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, though Radford had a recent DUI arrest that was unknown to his command until after the incident.

Governor Brian Kemp expressed condolences, urging Georgians to keep the victims and their families in their prayers. The FBI is assisting in the investigation, and military officials have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

This incident adds to a troubling history of violence on U.S. military bases, raising renewed concerns about internal security and mental health support within the armed forces.
