Israeli forces carried out a series of strikes on Wednesday targeting a former Syrian army barracks in the Kiswa area, southwest of Damascus, according to Syrian military sources and state media. The site, once used as an air defense base during the Assad era and later by Iranian-backed groups, was reportedly hit by multiple air and drone attacks before an airborne landing by Israeli troops.

Syrian outlets reported that at least eight soldiers were killed and others wounded in the initial strikes. The attacks came after patrol units allegedly discovered surveillance and eavesdropping devices in the area, prompting further bombardment that prevented reinforcements from reaching the site.

The Israeli military has not commented on the operation, which follows a pattern of intensified cross-border actions since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government late last year.
