Hamas Releases Final 20 Israeli Hostages in Landmark Ceasefire Deal

In a dramatic breakthrough, Hamas has released the last 20 living Israeli hostages held in Gaza, marking a pivotal moment in the ceasefire agreement aimed at ending two years of devastating conflict. The hostages, all men, were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in two stages before being transferred to Israeli authorities for medical checks and reunions with their families.

The release came as part of a broader deal brokered with U.S., Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediation. In exchange, Israel began releasing more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners, with buses carrying freed detainees arriving in Ramallah and Gaza to cheering crowds.

The agreement is being hailed as the most significant step yet toward halting the war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced countless families. U.S. President Donald Trump, who arrived in Israel shortly after the first group of hostages was freed, declared the deal a turning point for peace in the region.

While the return of the hostages has brought relief and celebration in Israel, the deal also underscores the immense human toll of the conflict. The remains of 28 Israeli hostages who died in captivity are expected to be returned in the coming days.

This exchange, though fragile, has raised hopes that the ceasefire could pave the way for a more lasting peace after years of bloodshed.
