Louvre Heist Stuns Paris: €88 Million in Royal Jewels Stolen

In one of the most audacious robberies in recent French history, thieves made off with priceless royal jewellery from the Louvre Museum in Paris, causing an estimated €88 million in damages, according to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau.

The daylight heist unfolded on October 19, 2025, when four suspects used a crane to smash an upstairs window of the world-renowned museum. Once inside, they targeted a gallery housing 19th-century treasures, including a tiara once worn by Empress Eugénie and earrings belonging to Queen Marie-Amélie. The thieves fled on motorbikes, leaving behind chaos and what some politicians have described as a “national humiliation.”

Authorities have launched a massive investigation, with more than 60 officers assigned to track down the culprits. While the jewels’ financial worth is staggering, prosecutors stressed that the cultural and historical loss is immeasurable.

The Louvre, which remains closed as investigators comb the scene, has vowed to tighten security measures. Meanwhile, the daring heist has reignited debate over how Europe’s most treasured artifacts can be better protected against increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
