G7 Foreign Ministers Meet in Niagara to Hear Ukraine’s Plea Amid Escalating War

Top diplomats from the Group of Seven (G7) nations gathered in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario , for high-stakes talks with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister as Russia intensifies its assault on Ukraine’s power grid. The meeting, hosted by Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand , comes at a critical moment as rolling blackouts sweep across Ukraine ahead of winter. Foreign ministers from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the European Union posed for a family photo before beginning discussions. Massive Rallies Sweep Turkey in Solidarity with Palestinians

Hundreds of thousands of people poured into the streets across Turkey on Sunday, staging one of the largest demonstrations in recent years to show support for Palestinians and condemn Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza.

In Istanbul, vast crowds marched from the historic Hagia Sophia to the Golden Horn, where boats adorned with Turkish and Palestinian flags greeted them. Demonstrators chanted slogans of solidarity and called for an end to what they described as “genocide” in Gaza.

Similar rallies erupted in Ankara, Izmir, and smaller cities, with participants waving Palestinian flags, holding placards, and voicing support for the Global Sumud Flotilla—an aid mission intercepted by Israeli forces last week while attempting to break the blockade of Gaza.

On Lake Van in eastern Turkey, fishing boats and canoes joined the movement, sailing under Palestinian banners as thousands cheered from the shore.

The demonstrations coincided with the second anniversary of Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which triggered the war in Gaza. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began.

Turkey, a majority-Muslim nation, has long been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan remains one of Israel’s fiercest critics, frequently denouncing its military operations in Gaza and urging greater international action.
