Postal Workers Launch Rotating Strikes Across Canada

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has begun rotating strikes in several provinces, including Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and British Columbia. The action started early Saturday morning, with workers in four communities walking off the job as part of the union’s ongoing contract dispute with Canada Post.

CUPW says the rotating strike strategy is designed to maintain pressure on the employer while still allowing some mail and parcel delivery to continue. Union president Jan Simpson stated that postal workers “could not stand by as the Government announced its plans to allow Canada Post to gut our postal service and slash thousands of our jobs.”

The union, which has been without a contract for nearly two years, is demanding stronger job security, improved working conditions, and protection of public postal services. Canada Post has not yet confirmed how the rotating strikes will affect delivery schedules, but customers in affected regions should expect delays.
