 INGREDIENTS

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (packed) dark brown sugar (fine to substitute light)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2½ cups all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup and leveled off (see note)
  • 2 cups (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips, best quality such as Ghirardelli

  • 1. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
    2. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
    3. Mix Dry Ingredients: Add the baking soda and flour, mixing until just combined.
    4. Add Chocolate Chips: Stir in the chocolate chips.
    5. Chill Dough: Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least a few hours or overnight.
    6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
