International Aid Mobilized as Jerusalem Wildfires Rage
Israel has reached out to neighboring countries, including Cyprus, for assistance in combating devastating wildfires near Jerusalem. The fires, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, have forced evacuations and closed major highways, including the critical Route 1 connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the situation a national emergency, emphasizing the urgent need to protect Jerusalem and surrounding communities. Cyprus, along with Greece, Croatia, Italy, and Bulgaria, has been asked to provide firefighting aircraft to aid in controlling the flames. The fires have already caused injuries, with several people hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns. Authorities are investigating the possibility of arson, with one suspect arrested in connection to the blaze. Emergency services continue to work tirelessly, supported by international aid, to contain what is being described as one of the largest wildfires in the region's history.
