TSX Slumps as Central Banks Hold Steady

Canada’s Main Index Suffers Sharpest Drop Since May The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index fell 169.92 points, or 0.6%, to close at 27,369.96 on Wednesday, marking its steepest single-day decline in ten weeks. The drop followed a record high the previous day, underscoring investor unease as both the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of Canada opted to keep interest rates unchanged. The materials sector led the retreat, sliding 2.1% amid tumbling copper and gold prices. Financials and technology also posted losses, down 0.6% and 0.5% respectively, as eight of the index’s ten major sectors ended in the red. Ukraine Repatriates Fallen Soldiers Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukraine has successfully repatriated the bodies of 1,212 soldiers who lost their lives in the ongoing war with Russia. The operation, coordinated by Ukraine’s prisoner exchange committee, marks a significant moment in the country’s efforts to honor its fallen defenders.

The repatriation process was carried out with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which facilitated the transfer at an undisclosed location. Refrigerated trucks, some marked with emblems of "On the Shield," a Ukrainian organization dedicated to retrieving military casualties, were used to transport the remains.

This exchange follows recent negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, where both sides agreed to a large-scale transfer of war casualties. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russia had offered to return 6,000 bodies, but only 15% had been identified so far.

The returned bodies will now be examined by experts from Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, law enforcement agencies, and Health Ministry to confirm their identities as swiftly as possible.

This repatriation effort comes amid continued fighting, with Russia claiming territorial advances in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, while Kyiv reports Moscow’s largest drone attack since the war began.

Ukraine remains committed to ensuring that its fallen soldiers are properly honored and returned to their homeland, even as the conflict continues to escalate.
