Trump Fires Labor Statistics Chief After Disappointing Jobs Report Sparks Controversy

President Donald Trump has dismissed Erika L. McEntarfer, the commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), following the release of a July jobs report that revealed significantly weaker employment growth than anticipated. The report showed the U.S. economy added just 73,000 jobs , far below the projected 105,000 , and included downward revisions of 258,000 jobs for May and June. Trump announced the firing via Truth Social, accusing McEntarfer—who was appointed by former President Joe Biden—of producing inaccurate and politically biased data. “We need accurate Jobs Numbers,” Trump wrote. “She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified”. Tragedy in Ukraine's Capital

A devastating Russian drone and missile assault on Kyiv early Thursday morning has left 28 people dead, including a two-year-old child whose body was recovered from the rubble on Friday. The attack, one of the deadliest on the capital since the full-scale invasion began over three years ago, also injured more than 150 people—16 of them children.

Scale of the Attack

  • Russia launched over 300 drones and eight missiles in the early hours of Thursday.
  • The strike caused widespread destruction across Kyiv, damaging homes, schools, and medical facilities.
  • Among the victims were three children aged 2, 6, and 17, marking the highest number of child casualties in a single attack on Kyiv since the war began.

Day of Mourning

City officials declared Friday a day of mourning as rescue operations continued. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko condemned the attack, stating, “The world possesses every instrument required to ensure Russia is brought to justice. What is lacking is not power — but will”.

International Response

U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Russia’s “disgusting” actions and warned of economic consequences if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not reach a deal by August 8.

This latest assault underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and the urgent need for global action to protect civilians and hold aggressors accountable.
