Trump’s Lawyers Seek to Set Aside Hush Money Conviction After Supreme Court Ruling

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have requested that the New York judge overseeing his hush money trial set aside his conviction and delay his sentencing, which is scheduled for next week. The request comes in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity.

Trump was convicted in New York on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to an attempt to cover up a hush money payment to a porn actor just before the 2016 presidential election. The Supreme Court’s decision confirmed a position the defense raised earlier in the case, arguing that some evidence should have been excluded due to immunity protections. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has not commented on the matter.
