Bank of Canada Holds the Line as Global Turmoil Clouds Outlook

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem takes part in a press conference in Ottawa on September 17, 2025 The Bank of Canada has opted to keep its key interest rate steady at 2.25%, a decision that reflects the delicate balancing act policymakers face as global uncertainty intensifies. With inflationary pressures rising and economic growth showing signs of strain, the central bank is navigating a narrow path shaped by forces largely outside its control. Trump Appeals to Religion, Harris Focuses on Jobs as Early Voting Surges

As the U.S. presidential election draws near, millions of Americans have already cast their votes, with early voting numbers reaching unprecedented levels. In this critical period, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are making their final appeals to voters.

Trump, speaking at a National Faith Advisory Board event in Georgia, emphasized the importance of religion in America. "I think this is a country that needs religion," he stated, framing the election as a choice between faith-based values and what he described as a "new radical left group". His campaign, however, faced backlash over racist remarks made by a comedian at a recent rally, which the campaign has distanced itself from.

Meanwhile, Harris focused on economic issues during her campaign stop in Michigan. She visited Corning Inc's Hemlock Semiconductor facility, highlighting the importance of investing in manufacturing jobs. "When we can find a way to have meaningful partnerships with the private sector, everybody wins," she said. Harris has proposed policies to address inflation and housing challenges, contrasting her approach with Trump's economic leadership.

With early voting expected to account for a significant portion of the total ballots, both candidates are intensifying their efforts to secure votes in key swing states. The outcome of this election will hinge on voter turnout and the efficiency of the vote-counting process.
