U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Some accounts suggest he may have suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of a limb and a possible coma, after an airstrike that also killed members of his family.  U.S....

Escalation in Gaza: Israeli Airstrikes Intensify Amid Global Criticism

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 50 Palestinians, including women and children, as the conflict continues to escalate. The strikes targeted residential homes and a school sheltering displaced families, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The international community has increasingly voiced concerns over Israel’s military actions, with leaders from Britain, France, and Canada warning of potential consequences if Israel does not halt its operations and allow unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza. The United Nations has emphasized the urgent need for aid, stating that Gaza requires at least 500 trucks of supplies daily to meet basic needs.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the military campaign, describing it as a fight for civilization against barbarism and vowing to continue until achieving total victory. Meanwhile, ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar have yet to yield any breakthroughs.

The ongoing conflict, which began in October 2023 following Hamas-led attacks on Israeli communities, has led to widespread devastation in Gaza, displacing nearly all of its 2.3 million residents and resulting in over 53,000 deaths. As global pressure mounts, the future of the region remains uncertain.
