U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Some accounts suggest he may have suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of a limb and a possible coma, after an airstrike that also killed members of his family.  U.S....

Limited Aid Reaches Gaza Amid Ongoing Crisis

In a small but significant shift, Israel has eased its blockade on Gaza, allowing a limited number of aid trucks to enter the enclave. The trucks, carrying flour, baby food, and medical supplies, arrived on Wednesday, marking the first relaxation of restrictions in over two months.

Palestinian officials have welcomed the move but stress that the aid is far from sufficient to address the dire humanitarian crisis. Before the blockade, around 600 trucks entered Gaza daily, whereas only 100 trucks were permitted this time. The United Nations has warned that a quarter of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are at risk of famine.

Despite the arrival of aid, the situation remains critical. Bakeries supported by the UN’s World Food Programme have begun producing bread, but distribution efforts are still in their early stages. Meanwhile, Israeli military strikes continue, with reports of casualties across the enclave.

As international pressure mounts, calls for a more substantial and sustained flow of humanitarian assistance grow louder. The people of Gaza remain in urgent need of food, medical supplies, and security, as the crisis shows no signs of abating.
