Market Jitters Return as Cooler CPI Surprises Wall Street

A softer‑than‑expected U.S. Consumer Price Index reading sent a ripple through financial markets today, creating an unusual dynamic: good news on inflation, but renewed pressure on major stock indexes. A Cooling CPI, but a Nervous Market The latest CPI report showed inflation easing more than economists anticipated. Under normal circumstances, that would be a welcome sign—suggesting the Federal Reserve may have more room to consider rate cuts later in the year. But markets don’t always behave logically in the moment. Limited Aid Reaches Gaza Amid Ongoing Crisis

In a small but significant shift, Israel has eased its blockade on Gaza, allowing a limited number of aid trucks to enter the enclave. The trucks, carrying flour, baby food, and medical supplies, arrived on Wednesday, marking the first relaxation of restrictions in over two months.

Palestinian officials have welcomed the move but stress that the aid is far from sufficient to address the dire humanitarian crisis. Before the blockade, around 600 trucks entered Gaza daily, whereas only 100 trucks were permitted this time. The United Nations has warned that a quarter of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are at risk of famine.

Despite the arrival of aid, the situation remains critical. Bakeries supported by the UN’s World Food Programme have begun producing bread, but distribution efforts are still in their early stages. Meanwhile, Israeli military strikes continue, with reports of casualties across the enclave.

As international pressure mounts, calls for a more substantial and sustained flow of humanitarian assistance grow louder. The people of Gaza remain in urgent need of food, medical supplies, and security, as the crisis shows no signs of abating.
