U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Some accounts suggest he may have suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of a limb and a possible coma, after an airstrike that also killed members of his family.  U.S....

Russia Escalates Conflict with Largest Drone Attack Following Peace Talks

Just days after the first direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in over three years, Moscow launched its largest drone assault of the war, killing a woman and injuring at least three others in Ukraine’s capital region.

Ukraine’s air force reported that 273 drones were deployed overnight, primarily targeting Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk. The attack surpassed the previous record of 267 drones, which occurred on the eve of the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The sustained bombardment led to nine hours of air raid warnings, with Ukrainian air defense units managing to intercept 88 drones. However, the scale of the attack left significant destruction, damaging residential buildings and infrastructure.

The timing of the assault has raised concerns about Russia’s commitment to peace efforts. The Istanbul peace talks, which lasted just 100 minutes, resulted in an agreement to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war but failed to secure a ceasefire.

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, as global leaders react to the latest escalation.

Ukraine has condemned the attack as an attempt to intimidate negotiators, with officials calling for stronger sanctions against Moscow. As the war continues, the world watches closely to see whether diplomatic efforts can prevent further bloodshed.
