Rising Tensions in the Gulf as Iran Strikes and Trump Rebukes Allies

Iran has launched a new wave of attacks on U.S. Gulf allies, escalating an already volatile regional conflict. On Tuesday, Iranian forces targeted the United Arab Emirates in what officials described as retaliatory strikes amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. Canadian Man Dies in U.S. Immigration Custody Amid Deportation Proceedings

A 49-year-old Canadian citizen, Johnny Noviello, has died while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Florida. According to ICE, Noviello was found unresponsive on Monday at the Federal Detention Center in Miami and was pronounced dead the same day despite medical intervention.

Noviello had been a lawful permanent resident of the United States since 1991, having entered the country legally in 1988. In 2023, he was convicted of drug trafficking and racketeering charges in Volusia County, Florida, and sentenced to 12 months in prison. ICE arrested him in May 2025 at a Florida probation office, initiating removal proceedings based on his prior convictions.

The cause of death remains under investigation. Global Affairs Canada has been contacted for comment, and ICE has stated that more information will be released as it becomes available.
