Escalation in Ukraine: Russia Strikes Kyiv in Retaliation

Russia has launched a massive overnight strike on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, claiming it was a response to alleged "terrorist acts" by Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that the attack targeted military and military-related infrastructure, including weapons production facilities, drone assembly workshops, and training centers.

The strike follows accusations from Moscow that Ukraine was behind a deadly bombing of a railway bridge in western Russia, an incident that killed seven people and injured over 150. Ukraine has not taken responsibility for the attack. Additionally, Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted Russian nuclear-capable bombers at airfields, causing significant damage.

The Kremlin has framed its actions as a necessary response to what it calls Kyiv’s "acts of terrorism," reinforcing its stance that Ukraine’s leadership has become a "terrorist regime". Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported that the Russian barrage included missiles and drones, resulting in civilian casualties and widespread destruction.

As tensions continue to rise, both sides remain locked in a cycle of retaliation, with no clear path toward de-escalation. The international community watches closely, as the conflict threatens to further destabilize the region.
