Khamenei Declares Retaliation a “Slap” to U.S. Amid Post-War Tensions

In his first televised address since the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei claimed that the Islamic Republic had “slapped America in the face” by launching a retaliatory strike on a major U.S. military base in Qatar. The remarks come after a 12-day conflict that saw U.S. forces join Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Khamenei, speaking from an undisclosed location, asserted that the U.S. had gained “nothing” from its intervention and warned that Iran retained the capability to strike American targets in the region again if provoked. He emphasized that any future aggression would come at a “great cost” to the United States.

The missile attack on the U.S. base reportedly caused no casualties, but Khamenei framed it as a symbolic victory, reinforcing Iran’s regional reach and deterrence. His comments also criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict, accusing him of “showmanship” and exaggerating the impact of U.S. strikes.

The ceasefire, brokered by the U.S., has brought a fragile calm to the region, though tensions remain high. Iran has begun reopening its airspace and resuming daily life, even as its leadership signals readiness for future confrontation.
