Bank of Canada Holds the Line as Global Turmoil Clouds Outlook

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem takes part in a press conference in Ottawa on September 17, 2025 The Bank of Canada has opted to keep its key interest rate steady at 2.25%, a decision that reflects the delicate balancing act policymakers face as global uncertainty intensifies. With inflationary pressures rising and economic growth showing signs of strain, the central bank is navigating a narrow path shaped by forces largely outside its control. King Charles to Host President Trump in Unprecedented Second State Visit

In a historic diplomatic gesture, King Charles has extended a formal invitation to U.S. President Donald Trump for a state visit to the United Kingdom later this year. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the visit is scheduled for September, marking the first time a British monarch has hosted an elected U.S. president for two state visits.

The invitation, known as the Manu Regia, was hand-delivered to the White House by British officials, signaling the start of formal planning for the high-profile event. The visit is expected to include all the traditional ceremonial elements—such as a carriage procession and a state banquet—this time hosted at Windsor Castle.

While the Palace had initially hoped for a more gradual approach, including a private meeting in Scotland, scheduling conflicts reportedly made that impossible. Despite earlier concerns over political optics and past tensions—including Trump’s controversial remarks about Canada—both parties appear committed to strengthening transatlantic ties.

A Palace aide noted, “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year”.

This visit underscores the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, even as it breaks with royal precedent.
