Minnesota Lawmakers Shooting: Suspect Arrested After Intense Manhunt

Authorities have arrested Vance Luther Boelte*, the suspect accused of fatally shooting former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, while also wounding Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman

Boelter, 57, was taken into custody late Sunday after surrendering to police in a wooded area near his home, ending what officials described as the largest manhunt in Minnesota's history. The suspect allegedly posed as a police officer before carrying out the attacks at the victims' homes.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the violence, calling it a "politically motivated assassination". Authorities revealed that Boelter had a list of other public officials, raising concerns about further planned attacks.

Boelter has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder, with potential sentences of up to 40 years in prison. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the state, prompting discussions on political violence and security measures for public officials.
