Air Transat Faces Flight Suspensions Amid Pilot Strike Notice

Air Transat has announced it will gradually suspend flights starting Monday following a 72-hour strike notice issued by its pilots’ union. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), representing roughly 700 pilots, delivered the notice after nearly a year of unsuccessful negotiations with the airline’s parent company, Transat A.T. Inc. Background The union filed the strike notice on Sunday, giving pilots the legal right to walk off the job as early as Wednesday. Last week, pilots voted 99% in favor of strike action , underscoring their frustration over stalled contract talks. Starship 36 Erupts in Fireball During Routine Test at SpaceX Starbase

In a dramatic turn of events, SpaceX's Starship 36 exploded into a massive fireball during a routine static fire test late Wednesday night at the company’s Starbase facility in Texas. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. local time as the rocket was being prepared for its 10th test flight.

According to SpaceX, the vehicle experienced a “major anomaly” while on the test stand. Fortunately, all personnel were safe and accounted for, and no hazards were reported in surrounding communities. The explosion, captured on livestream, showed a brilliant flash followed by a towering blaze that lit up the night sky and scattered debris across the site.

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, downplayed the incident on social media, posting “Just a scratch” and later sharing a meme captioned “RIP Ship 36,” reflecting the company’s characteristic “fail fast, learn fast” approach to innovation.

Despite the setback, SpaceX remains committed to its long-term goal of making Starship the cornerstone of interplanetary travel. The 122-meter-tall rocket is designed to be fully reusable and capable of carrying up to 150 metric tons of cargo—key to Musk’s vision of colonizing Mars.
