Markets Rebound as Hopes for Iran–U.S. Dialogue Ease Geopolitical Tensions

U.S. stock futures edged higher on Wednesday as signs of potential diplomatic movement in the Iran–U.S. standoff helped calm volatile markets. Futures tied to the S&P 500 rose about 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.5%, and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 0.2% after a turbulent prior session.  The shift in sentiment followed reports that Iran has quietly approached the United States to discuss terms for ending the escalating conflict , a development that helped cool fears of further disruption in global energy markets. Tensions Escalate as Israeli Military Strikes Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

In a significant escalation, the Israeli military launched airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting what it described as Hezbollah’s underground drone production facilities. The attack, which occurred on the eve of Eid al-Adha, struck multiple locations in the densely populated Dahieh district, prompting widespread evacuations and panic among residents.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had issued warnings earlier in the day, urging civilians in specific neighborhoods to evacuate due to imminent strikes. The Lebanese government swiftly condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international agreements and a direct threat to national security. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the strikes as a "flagrant violation" of the ceasefire agreement that had been in place for six months.

The situation remains fluid, with no immediate reports on casualties. Hezbollah has yet to issue an official response, but tensions between Israel and the militant group have been steadily rising despite previous ceasefire efforts. The international community is closely monitoring developments, fearing further escalation in the region.
