U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Tensions Escalate in Los Angeles as National Guard Deployed Amid Immigration Protests

Los Angeles has become the epicenter of heated clashes between immigration protesters and law enforcement, prompting the deployment of National Guard troops to maintain order. Demonstrations erupted across the city in response to federal immigration raids, with activists attempting to block deportations and law enforcement responding with crowd-control measures, including rubber bullets and tear gas.

The protests, now entering their third day, have drawn thousands of demonstrators, some of whom have engaged in direct confrontations with police officers. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have criticized the deployment of National Guard troops, arguing that it risks escalating tensions rather than restoring order.

Federal authorities maintain that the deployment is necessary to prevent further unrest, citing incidents of property damage and attempts to obstruct immigration enforcement operations. Meanwhile, activists continue to rally against what they describe as unjust deportations, vowing to persist in their demonstrations despite the increased security presence.

As the situation unfolds, the city remains on edge, with officials urging both protesters and law enforcement to exercise restraint in the coming days.
