Markets Slip as Investors Bet on Extended U.S.–Iran Ceasefire

Stocks Edge Lower as Investors Hope U.S.–Iran Ceasefire Will Hold Stocks drifted lower today as markets balanced cautious optimism over a potential extension of the U.S.–Iran ceasefire with persistent geopolitical and inflation concerns. Recent trading sessions have shown that even modest signs of diplomatic progress can meaningfully shift investor sentiment. Asian and U.S. markets rallied earlier this week on hopes that Washington and Tehran would continue negotiations, helping unwind some of the war-driven risk premiums that had pushed oil and volatility higher. Tragedy in Gaza: Aid Workers Killed in Bus Ambush

In a devastating attack, five Palestinian humanitarian workers from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were killed when their bus was ambushed near Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The workers were part of a U.S.-backed effort to distribute food aid in the war-torn region.

Israel has blamed Hamas for the attack, stating that the militant group deliberately targeted the bus to disrupt humanitarian operations. The Israeli defense agency COGAT condemned the killings, calling them a crime against humanitarian workers and urging the international community to take action. Hamas has not commented on the incident.

The attack comes amid ongoing violence in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes and gunfire have killed dozens of Palestinians in recent days. Despite the tragedy, GHF has vowed to continue its aid distribution efforts, providing much-needed food to the struggling population.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains dire, with aid workers facing increasing dangers as they attempt to deliver essential supplies. The United Nations has criticized the current aid distribution model, warning that it fails to address the deepening hunger crisis.

As tensions escalate, the fate of humanitarian operations in Gaza hangs in the balance, with calls for international intervention growing louder.
