U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Some accounts suggest he may have suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of a limb and a possible coma, after an airstrike that also killed members of his family.  U.S....

Aid Turns to Tragedy: 32 Killed in Gaza Amid Humanitarian Struggle

At least 32 Palestinians were killed early Saturday when Israeli troops opened fire near aid distribution sites in southern Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The victims were reportedly seeking food from hubs operated by the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has become a focal point in the territory’s deepening humanitarian crisis.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as crowds gathered in the Teina area, roughly three kilometers from a GHF site. “They encircled us and started firing directly at us,” said one survivor, while another claimed the gunfire was “targeted to kill”. The Israeli military stated it had fired warning shots at individuals who approached its forces and ignored calls to stop, noting the incident occurred before the aid sites opened.

GHF denied any incidents at its distribution centers, emphasizing that the fatalities occurred hours before operations began and far from their locations. However, the U.N. has raised concerns about the safety of GHF’s model, citing hundreds of deaths near aid sites in recent weeks.

The tragedy underscores the dire conditions in Gaza, where over 58,000 Palestinians have died since the war began in October 2023, and nearly the entire population has been displaced. Talks between Israel and Hamas continue in Qatar, but no breakthrough has been reported.
