Baby Formula Theft Linked to Drug Trade in Mississauga, Peel Police Reveal

Peel Regional Police have uncovered a sophisticated crime ring operating in Mississauga that exchanged stolen baby formula for illicit drugs, shedding light on a troubling intersection between retail theft and narcotics trafficking.

According to investigators, the group targeted multiple retail stores, stealing large quantities of baby formula—a high-value item often resold on the black market. The stolen goods were then traded for drugs, fueling a cycle of criminal activity that spanned across the Greater Toronto Area.

Authorities say the operation was well-organized, with individuals assigned specific roles including theft, transportation, and distribution. The investigation, which began after a spike in baby formula thefts, led to several arrests and the seizure of both stolen products and illegal substances.

Police are urging retailers and the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. The case highlights how everyday consumer goods can become currency in the underground economy, and how organized crime continues to adapt in unexpected ways.
