Deadly Drone Strike Ignites Odesa Apartment Fire, Leaves Six Injured
Odesa Under Fire: Civilian Casualties in Overnight Russian Drone Attack
In the early hours of July 19, Russian forces launched a massive drone assault on the Ukrainian port city of Odesa, killing one resident and injuring six others, including a child. The strike ignited a fire in a multi-storey apartment building, engulfing several upper floors and prompting a dramatic rescue operation by emergency crews.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the attack was part of a broader offensive involving over 300 drones and 30 missiles targeting ten regions across Ukraine. In Odesa alone, more than 20 drones converged on the city, damaging multiple residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
Local officials confirmed that five people were rescued from burning apartments, though tragically, one woman later died from her injuries. The Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office has launched a war crimes investigation into the incident.
As Ukraine continues to appeal for enhanced air defense systems and international support, the strike underscores the escalating toll of Russia’s ongoing aggression. Rescue operations remain underway, and authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
