Gulf on Edge as UAE Oil Hub Blaze Fuels Iran–US Tensions

Smoke rises in the Fujairah oil industry zone, caused by debris after interception of a drone by air defences. A surge in regional tensions has followed a major fire at a UAE oil hub, sparked by debris from intercepted drones, as Iran vows retaliation for a recent U.S. strike on its Kharg Island oil facilities. The incident has intensified fears of broader conflict across the Gulf, with Iran warning that parts of the UAE could be considered legitimate targets.  A significant fire erupted at a major oil hub in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, after debris from intercepted drones fell onto the facility, disrupting operations and sending plumes of smoke across the region. Iran Suspends Cooperation with UN Nuclear Watchdog Amid Rising Tensions

In a dramatic escalation of nuclear diplomacy, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has officially enacted a law suspending all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog. The move follows a parliamentary vote and approval by Iran’s Guardian Council, effectively halting inspections and oversight of the country’s nuclear facilities.

The legislation, passed in the wake of recent Israeli and U.S. airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear sites, mandates that any future IAEA inspections must receive clearance from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Iranian officials have accused the IAEA of bias and complicity in the attacks, citing a recent UN resolution that declared Iran in violation of its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

While the law does not specify the exact scope of the suspension, it signals a significant rollback of transparency in Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA has expressed concern and is awaiting formal clarification from Tehran.

This development comes amid heightened regional tensions following a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, during which multiple nuclear facilities were targeted. Although Iran has stopped short of withdrawing from the NPT, experts warn that the suspension could further destabilize efforts to revive nuclear negotiations.
