U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Thunderstorm Threat Looms Over Toronto as Heat Wave Intensifies

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Toronto Amid Record-Breaking Heat

Toronto residents are bracing for potentially dangerous weather as Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch late Thursday afternoon, warning of intense storms developing amidst an ongoing heat wave.

The alert, issued just before 5 p.m., cautions that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing:

  • Wind gusts up to 90 km/h
  • Torrential rainfall reaching 50 mm
  • Hailstones as large as nickel-sized

The storms are expected to roll in during the evening hours and may offer brief relief from the oppressive heat, which has pushed temperatures to feel like over 40°C with humidity factored in.

Officials urge residents to take precautions:

  • Seek shelter when thunder is heard: “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
  • Avoid driving through flooded roads
  • Stay hydrated and check on vulnerable individuals during the heat wave

This latest bout of extreme weather follows a string of temperature records shattered across Ontario this summer. The heat warning remains in effect, with no immediate end in sight.

Stay tuned to Environment Canada and local news outlets for updates as the situation evolves.
