Tragedy at the Tap: Israeli Strike Kills Children in Gaza Water Queue
In a devastating incident on Sunday, ten Palestinians—including six children—were killed in an Israeli airstrike while collecting water in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Eyewitnesses reported that a drone fired a missile at a crowd gathered around a water tanker, many of them carrying empty containers amid Gaza’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
The victims were rushed to Nuseirat’s al-Awda Hospital, which also treated 16 injured individuals, including seven children. The strike occurred as Israeli aerial attacks intensified across the Gaza Strip, with 19 additional Palestinians killed in separate strikes on residential buildings the same day.
Footage shared online showed scenes of chaos and heartbreak—bloodied children, lifeless bodies, and desperate residents using private vehicles and donkey carts to transport the wounded.
The International Committee of the Red Cross reported a surge in mass casualty cases at its Rafah field hospital, treating over 3,400 weapon-wounded patients since late May. The organization warned that the frequency and scale of such incidents reflect the dire conditions civilians in Gaza are enduring.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza began after Hamas’s October 2023 attack, and since then, more than 57,800 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s health ministry. With infrastructure decimated and basic services collapsing, residents face severe shortages of food, fuel, medicine, and clean water.
This latest tragedy underscores the peril faced by civilians simply trying to survive. As international calls for a ceasefire continue, the humanitarian toll in Gaza grows ever more unbearable.
