Tragedy in Dhaka: Air Force Jet Crash Claims 19 Lives at School Campus

 


A devastating accident struck Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Monday when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in the Uttara district, killing at least 19 people. The jet had taken off at 1:06 p.m. local time before plummeting into the school grounds during regular class hours.

Among the victims were students, teachers, and the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammed Toukir Islam. Over 160 others sustained injuries, many suffering severe burns, and were rushed to nearby hospitals including the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and horror as the aircraft slammed into the side of a building, igniting a massive fire and sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky. Rescue operations were swiftly launched by the Bangladesh Army and fire services, with emergency transport and medical aid deployed across the city.

Interim leader Muhammad Yunus expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling the loss “irreparable” and pledging a full investigation into the cause of the crash. A national day of mourning has been declared, with flags flown at half-mast and special prayers held across the country.

This tragedy comes just weeks after a similar aviation disaster in neighboring India, raising renewed concerns over flight safety in densely populated urban areas.
