The Canada Strong Fund — Invest Like the Government

Published on MoneySavings.ca | Personal Finance | May 2026 Imagine being able to put your savings into the same fund the federal government is betting $25 billion on. For the first time in Canadian history, that's exactly what Ottawa is offering you — a front-row seat (and a direct stake) in the country's biggest nation-building push in generations. On April 28, 2026, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada's first national sovereign wealth fund — the Canada Strong Fund. Tragedy in Ticonderoga: Montreal Girl’s Death Ruled Homicide by Drowning

A nine-year-old girl from Montreal, Melina Frattolin, was found dead in a shallow pond in Ticonderoga, New York, over the weekend. Preliminary autopsy results released by New York State Police confirm that Melina died from asphyxia due to drowning, and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Her father, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, has been charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. Authorities say Frattolin initially reported his daughter missing late Saturday night, claiming she had been abducted by strangers in a white van. However, investigators later determined that the abduction story was fabricated.

Melina and her father had entered the U.S. on July 11 for a vacation, and were expected to return to Montreal on Sunday. Surveillance footage and phone records show Melina spoke with her mother Saturday evening and appeared to be in good spirits. Her body was discovered the next day under a log in a pond near Route 74.

The case has deeply affected the community of Ticonderoga, where a vigil was held to honor Melina’s life. Residents gathered at Percy Thompson Centennial Park to light candles, share prayers, and express their grief. Organizer Bridgette Cruz said, “She was supposed to be taken care of… It truly is a tragedy, not just for this town but two nations”.

Police are continuing their investigation and have asked the public for help, specifically seeking information about the 2024 gray Toyota Prius Frattolin was driving on Saturday evening between exits 28 and 20 on Interstate 87.

Frattolin has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.
