U.S. Slams UN Israel-Palestine Conference as “Publicity Stunt”

The United States has sharply criticized a United Nations conference aimed at promoting a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, labeling the event a “publicity stunt” that undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The three-day summit, co-sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, brought together dozens of ministers to discuss pathways to peace. However, the U.S. State Department dismissed the gathering as “unproductive and ill-timed,” warning that it could embolden Hamas and prolong the conflict rather than resolve it.

“This is a publicity stunt that comes in the middle of delicate diplomatic efforts to end the conflict,” said State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce. “Far from promoting peace, the conference will reward obstruction and undermine real-world efforts to achieve peace”.

The U.S. also criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement to recognize a Palestinian state, calling it “counterproductive” and a “reward for terrorism”.

Despite longstanding support for a two-state solution, the U.S. has opted to skip the conference, signaling a shift in its approach to Middle East diplomacy amid escalating tensions and stalled ceasefire negotiations.
