That would follow a much stronger May, when the economy added 88,000 jobs and the unemployment rate actually fell by 0.3 percentage points. Israel’s newly approved plan to occupy Gaza City has sparked a wave of international condemnation and domestic unrest. The proposal, backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ratified by Israel’s Security Cabinet, outlines a full military takeover of Gaza City over the next six months, beginning with mass evacuations and culminating in ground operations involving six Israeli military divisions.

Critics argue the move threatens to deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where 87% of the territory is already under evacuation orders or military control. The United Nations has warned of “catastrophic consequences,” and an emergency Security Council session was convened to address the escalating situation.

Governments across Europe, the Arab world, and Australia have urged Israel to reconsider, citing violations of international law and the risk to hostages still held by Hamas. In Israel, families of hostages and bereaved citizens have announced a nationwide shutdown on August 17 to protest the plan.
