Israel Mobilizes 50,000 Reservists Ahead of Gaza City Push

Israel is preparing to call up 50,000 reservists in the coming days as part of a planned offensive to seize control of Gaza City, the largest urban center in the Gaza Strip. According to a senior military official, most of the forces engaged in the operation will be active-duty soldiers, with reservists filling roles in the air force, intelligence, and logistical support, or replacing active personnel stationed elsewhere.

Defense Minister Israel Katz has approved the plan, which aims to target Hamas strongholds and underground tunnel networks in areas where Israeli forces have yet to operate. The move comes amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations mediated by Qatar and Egypt, with proposals on the table for a 60-day truce, hostage exchanges, and increased humanitarian aid.

Human rights groups and international observers have warned that the offensive could deepen Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, where widespread displacement, infrastructure destruction, and famine risks are already severe. Despite mounting pressure, Israeli officials maintain that securing the release of remaining hostages and dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities remain top priorities.
