Market Jitters Return as Cooler CPI Surprises Wall Street

A softer‑than‑expected U.S. Consumer Price Index reading sent a ripple through financial markets today, creating an unusual dynamic: good news on inflation, but renewed pressure on major stock indexes. A Cooling CPI, but a Nervous Market The latest CPI report showed inflation easing more than economists anticipated. Under normal circumstances, that would be a welcome sign—suggesting the Federal Reserve may have more room to consider rate cuts later in the year. Melania Trump’s Private Letter to Putin Highlights Plight of Abducted Ukrainian Children

First lady Melania Trump waves as she walks with U.S. President Donald Trump

In a rare personal intervention, U.S. First Lady Melania Trump has addressed the humanitarian crisis of abducted Ukrainian children in a private letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to White House officials, President Donald Trump hand-delivered the letter during high-stakes talks in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday.

While the contents remain undisclosed, sources confirmed the message raised concerns over thousands of Ukrainian children allegedly taken to Russia or Russian-controlled territories without family consent since the start of the war in 2022. Kyiv has labeled the mass transfers a war crime and possible act of genocide under international law, while Moscow insists it has been “protecting” children from conflict zones.

The meeting between the two leaders lasted nearly three hours but ended without a ceasefire agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to the First Lady, calling her outreach “a true act of humanism”.

The International Criminal Court has previously issued an arrest warrant for Putin over the alleged abductions, underscoring the global stakes of the issue. Melania Trump’s involvement, observers say, could add moral pressure on Moscow as diplomatic efforts to end the war continue.
