Russian Strikes on Kyiv Kill Civilians, Damage EU Mission

A massive overnight barrage of Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv on Thursday, killing at least 14 people — including three children — and wounding dozens more. The assault damaged residential buildings across multiple districts and severely hit the European Union’s diplomatic mission in the Ukrainian capital.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as a deliberate escalation, calling for tougher sanctions and stronger international pressure on Moscow. EU leaders, including European Council President António Costa and foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, denounced the strike as a violation of international law and vowed continued support for Ukraine.

Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed it targeted military and “military-adjacent” infrastructure, but Western officials accused Moscow of indiscriminately hitting civilian areas. The strike also damaged the British Council’s Kyiv office and other civilian facilities, deepening concerns over the safety of diplomatic missions in the war zone.

The attack comes amid stalled peace efforts, with both sides hardening their positions as the war grinds on.
