South Sudan Rejects Reports of Talks with Israel on Palestinian Resettlement

South Sudan’s foreign ministry has firmly denied claims that it is engaged in discussions with Israel to resettle Palestinians from Gaza. The statement came after media reports, citing unnamed sources, suggested that Israel was exploring the possibility of relocating Palestinians to the East African nation.

“These claims are baseless and do not reflect the official position or policy of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan,” the ministry said.

The Associated Press had earlier reported that Israeli officials were in contact with Juba over the proposal, which critics argue would move civilians from one conflict zone to another and potentially violate international law. Similar resettlement ideas have reportedly been floated with other countries, but many governments — including Somalia and Somaliland — have publicly rejected them in recent months.

The denial underscores South Sudan’s sensitivity to being drawn into the highly contentious issue of Gaza’s future, as the territory continues to face severe humanitarian and political crises.
