Israel has announced preparations to relocate Palestinians from combat zones in Gaza to the territory’s south, ahead of a planned military offensive in some of its most densely populated areas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has framed the operation as essential to defeating Hamas, describing Gaza City as one of the group’s final strongholds. However, the plan has drawn sharp criticism from humanitarian organizations and foreign governments, who warn it could deepen the already dire humanitarian crisis.

The announcement comes as families of Israeli hostages — 50 remain in Gaza, with only 20 believed alive — call for a “nationwide day of stoppage” to demand their release and an end to the nearly two-year war.
