Israel has announced preparations to relocate Palestinians from combat zones in Gaza to the territory’s south, ahead of a planned military offensive in some of its most densely populated areas. The move includes supplying tents and shelter equipment via the Kerem Shalom crossing, coordinated with the United Nations and international relief agencies.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has framed the operation as essential to defeating Hamas, describing Gaza City as one of the group’s final strongholds. However, the plan has drawn sharp criticism from humanitarian organizations and foreign governments, who warn it could deepen the already dire humanitarian crisis.

The announcement comes as families of Israeli hostages — 50 remain in Gaza, with only 20 believed alive — call for a “nationwide day of stoppage” to demand their release and an end to the nearly two-year war. Recent videos showing emaciated captives pleading for help have intensified public pressure on the government.

Conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate, with widespread hunger, contaminated water, and mounting civilian casualties reported. The United Nations has warned that the planned offensive could further endanger civilians and complicate aid delivery to the enclave’s 2.2 million residents.
