U.S. Officials Say Iran’s New Supreme Leader Gravely Wounded Amid Escalating Conflict

Protesters hold posters of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a protest marking al-Quds Day (Jerusalem Day), after Friday prayers at Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei , was seriously wounded and likely disfigured during the opening phase of U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth described Iran’s leadership as “desperate and hiding,” asserting that Khamenei has gone underground following injuries sustained in the attacks.  Reports from multiple outlets indicate that Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the conflict began, fueling speculation about the severity of his condition. Some accounts suggest he may have suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of a limb and a possible coma, after an airstrike that also killed members of his family.  U.S....

Trump and Putin Set Stage for High-Stakes Summit Amid Ukraine Tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin could meet as soon as next week, the Kremlin said Thursday.

In a significant diplomatic development, the Kremlin has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to hold a bilateral summit “in the coming days”. The meeting, which would be the first in-person engagement between the two leaders since Trump’s return to office, is expected to focus heavily on the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov stated that the venue has been agreed upon “in principle,” though specific details are yet to be announced. The summit follows a meeting in Moscow between Putin and Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, which both sides described as “productive”.

The timing is critical: Trump has set a Friday deadline for Russia to agree to a ceasefire or face sweeping new sanctions, including secondary measures targeting countries that continue to import Russian oil. India and China are among the largest buyers and could be affected by these punitive actions.

While Trump has floated the idea of a trilateral meeting involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Kremlin has downplayed that possibility. Zelensky, meanwhile, has expressed cautious optimism, noting that pressure on Russia “is working” but warning against being deceived in negotiations.

The summit could mark a turning point in efforts to end the three-year-old conflict, though Western officials remain skeptical of Putin’s willingness to make concessions. With thousands of lives lost and diplomatic tensions running high, the world will be watching closely as preparations for the meeting unfold.
