Raging wildfires in northern Spain have forced authorities to close sections of a historic pilgrimage route as flames edge closer to the Picos de Europa mountain range. High winds and scorching summer heat have fueled the blazes, which began in rural grasslands but have now spread to the forested slopes of the protected national park.

Emergency crews are working around the clock to contain the fires, deploying aerial water drops and creating firebreaks to shield nearby villages.
