Zelenskiy, Erdogan Advance Talks on Ukraine Security Guarantees Amid Escalating Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has announced that a framework for security guarantees for Ukraine could be finalized as early as next week, following an in-depth phone discussion with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The talks came just hours after a large-scale Russian missile strike on Kyiv killed at least 19 people, including children, and damaged multiple civilian and diplomatic sites. Zelenskiy said national security advisors from both nations are working on “every specific component” of the plan, which will be formally set out on paper soon.

Erdogan has reportedly tasked his defense minister with exploring Turkey’s potential role in ensuring security, particularly in the Black Sea region. Ukrainian officials, including National Security and Defence Council head Rustem Umerov, are also in Turkey for further discussions on bilateral defense cooperation and the proposed guarantees.

Turkey has expressed willingness to contribute to any initiative aimed at lasting peace in Ukraine, though it has not yet committed to a specific role.
